Panels

  • All 2-D work must be attached to a KIA-approved panel. The panels are available for purchase at the KIA for $9 each. Teachers are welcome to reuse their panels from last year if they are in good condition.
  • Panels will be stacked on top of each other before they are hung in the gallery. If a work could be damaged by stacking or has a depth of more than a half inch, please consider it a 3-D work.
  • Panels are attached horizontally to a premade frame in order to be hung in the gallery. If you orient your panel in a vertical or portrait format, it will not be hung. To be clear, the individual artworks can be attached in a vertical or horizontal orientation, but the panel itself must be oriented horizontally.
  • The number of panels an elementary school can submit is based on the population of the school, while the number of panels a middle school can submit is based on the number of students enrolled in art classes. Please see the following information to know how many panels your school is able to submit.
    • Up to 199 students – 1 panel
    • 200-299 students – 2 panels
    • 300-399 students – 3 panels
    • 400 + students – 4 panels

2-D and 3-D Work

  • 2-D work cannot be submitted individually as 3-D work. If your students created a collaborative 2-D work, it must fit on a panel with a horizontal orientation. It will not be hung individually. You will not receive additional panels for collaborative pieces. If you are unsure about how your students’ work should be submitted, please ask.
  • Each school is able to submit up to eight 3-D works.
