Not every gemstone was created equal, and not every stone comes with perfectly precise angles and measurements. Many lovely stones have been left in the raw, hand cut or simply tumbled. In this course, we will be exploring techniques for setting odd or “difficult” stones. It will include instruction on students’ personal stones and will include a variety of different techniques, depending on what the material requires.

Explore where functionality meets metalsmithing and creativity! Coat hooks, push plates, drawer knobs, planter trays, and other everyday household items don’t have to be ordinary. During this intensive class, students will use their metalsmithing skills to add a personal touch to daily items used in their home. Techniques such as piercing, soldering, forming, stone setting, and finishing will be used during the class.
