Learn about trailblazers of design theory in Modernism; become familiar with the elements and principles of design, Gestalt, and composition, and take inspiration from the many ways these ideas have carried influence through history. The marriage of art and function is all around us, from architecture to furniture to advertising and user interface; design is always communicating! This class focuses on an individual’s growth in the making of visual art, its process, and the conveying of ideas. Participants will be able to seek personal inspiration and guidance through the review and discussion of each other’s work and the artwork in the KIA’s revolving exhibitions and permanent collection. Classes will be conducted in a workshop setting with the primary focus of the class being the growth of one another’s art. Additional activities may include in-class experimentation.
