Docent FAQs

The majority of tours facilitated by KIA Docents are for upper elementary audiences (grades 3rd-6th). Candidate docents need to be comfortable with this aged audience.

Guided tours are offered Wednesday through Sunday. Docents are especially needed on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for school visits.

  • Wednesday from 10am-4pm
  • Thursday from 10am-7pm
  • Friday from 10am-4pm
  • Saturday from 11-4pm
  • Sunday from noon-3pm

We know that candidate docents have obligations during the week; therefore, classes are offered on Mondays from 1-3pm and 6-8pm. Candidates can select the time that works best for them.

Including the training courses, docents are required to lead a minimum of 15 tours per year or volunteer at other museum programs. Tours are scheduled for one hour; however, docents are asked to arrive 10-15 minutes early.

There is no cost for docent training. However, docents are required to be members of the KIA. Memberships start at $35.
