As the KIA continues to grow, this project will expand opportunities for people of all ages to gather, create, learn, and connect through the arts. From healthier studios and improved air quality to flexible community spaces and a revitalized courtyard, every improvement has been designed to better serve students, artists, educators, families, and visitors.
Construction will bring temporary inconveniences, but those short-term disruptions will create lasting benefits: a more welcoming campus, stronger arts education facilities, expanded community gathering space, and new opportunities for creative engagement for decades to come.
Together, we are building more than a new space. We are creating new opportunities for creativity, connection, and community.
Beginning August 3:

August 2025 & 2026; December 2026

March–May 2027

August–October 2026

We’ll keep this page updated with new developments and progress photos. Here are some impacts you may experience:
Except for designated accessible parking spaces, the Lovell St. lot adjacent to the building will be reserved for contractors during the workday.
Walls will extend 3-5 feet into the School Commons, Meader Fine Arts Library, Multipurpose Room, and Studio 2.
Expect to hear construction noise during barrier construction and HVAC mechanical work. We’re scheduling the loudest work for 7-9am.
The Creative Commons Project has been made possible through the generous support of:
…and many additional donors.
Their leadership has moved the project from vision to reality.
Additional philanthropic support will help complete this transformational investment and ensure that future generations have access to outstanding arts education, inspiring creative spaces, and meaningful community experiences at the KIA.
