2016 West Michigan Area Show (Artist Information)

Entry deadline is Monday, February 22 at Noon (postmarked by February 19)

Entry Procedures:

Send the following materials to WMAS, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, 314 S. Park Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007 or email to WMAS@kiarts.org.

  1. Completed Entry Form. Each artist may submit up to three works in any medium.

    • Printable Entry Form (PDF)
      (A limited number of printed entry forms are available at the KIA)

  2. Images on disk (or email to WMAS@kiarts.org) containing up to two images per work (an overall plus an optional detail/close-up or alternate view).
    • Files must be named as follows: (lastname)(initial)(entry#)(view a/b)

      e.g., Paul Smith's second entry's first view would become: SmithP2a.jpg (.jpg is added when saved in JPG format)

    • Files must be saved as JPG. Size recommendations: if using 300 dpi resolution, the image should be no less than 6-8 inches along one side. Or if using 72 dpi, the image should be approximately 25-35 inches along one side.
  3. Judging Notification: If you cannot receive notification by email, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
  4. Entry Fee: A non-refundable entry fee of $20 per work (or $50 for three) must accompany the Entry Form. Entry Fee may be paid in:

Eligibility: All artists 18 years or older residing in the following Michigan counties: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Eaton, Ionia, Kalamazoo, Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, St. Joseph, and Van Buren.

Specifications: Only original work of the artist's own design completed in the last two years should be entered. Digital media, 2-D, and 3-D works in any medium will be accepted. Work may not exceed six feet (72") in any dimension.

Award eligibility: Awards are selected by the juror after work is delivered to the KIA. Art quilts must be free-hanging (unframed), fabric-based, original compositions formed by stitched layers. Mixed media/Intermedia: Combining traditional and/or non-traditional media, eligible works stretch conventions of art and composition.

Delivery or Shipping of Accepted Entries: Works accepted into the WMAS must be received no later than 2 pm, April 2. Entries may be hand delivered to the KIA March 31 - April 2 (Th/Fr 9 am-4 pm, Sat 12-2 pm) or earlier by special arrangement. For directions and a map, please click here.

Works may be shipped via UPS or FedEx and must be sent with return postage and return mailing labels. Insurance of works in transit is the sole responsibility of the artist, and the KIA will not accept any works damaged in transit.

Condition of Entries: All works to be wall-hung must be fully prepared for hanging with proper hanging devices ("D"-rings and/or wires). Please note "top" where necessary. No clip frames are permitted. The KIA reserves the right to refuse any entry and to withdraw any work from the exhibition at its discretion.

Special Installation Needs: Pieces or works requiring special setups must be pre-arranged: call Brian Mosher at 269.349.7775, ext. 3134, no later than March 28.

Caveats: The KIA reserves the right to refuse any work that is inappropriate, framed inadequately, or misrepresented by entry image. Work must be available the entire duration of the exhibition and may not be delivered late or released early.

Liability: All work is submitted at the owner's risk. Although every precaution will be taken, the KIA is not responsible for insurance of work during transit or while on its premises. By submitting work, the artist waives any claim against the KIA for any loss or damage.

Sale of Works: All accepted entries are eligible for sale through the Gallery Shop, if desired. The KIA will take a 30% commission on all sales. If a work is not for sale, please indicate NFS on the entry form. No PORs (Price on Request) will be accepted. Works for sale must have prices listed along with an indication of whether framed or unframed, when applicable. Works offered for sale will be sold as exhibited; no substitutions or other copies of the same work will be permitted.
