2011 West Michigan Area Show
May 7 - June 26, 2011
Since the 1960s, this annual exhibition has showcased the exceptional work, in all media, of artists from a 14-county area surrounding Kalamazoo. This exhibition demonstrates the amazing variety and quality of work being created in Western Michigan.
In 2011, the WMAS will be comprised of 116 works by 105 local artists. The number of awards has increased to 16 this year, for a total of over $5,000 in cash prizes, sponsored by the KIA, numerous local artists guilds, arts organizations, and individuals who wish to support the richness of the West Michigan arts community. In addition, several community volunteers from the KIA's Exhibitions and Permanent Collections Advisory Committees contributed funds to sponsor a 2011 People's Choice Award.
The 2011 WMAS Juror was John Glick, whose exploration of new processes and daring to experiment have kept him engaged as a professional ceramic artist for over 40 years. At his Plum Tree Pottery studio in Farmington Hills, he creates both functional vessels and sculptural works. John Glick exhibits widely and his work is highly sought for collections nationwide, including the Smithsonian Institution, American Craft Museum, and Los Angeles County Museum.
