2019 West Michigan Area Show
May 17 - August 25, 2019
Submissions are now CLOSED for the 2019 West Michigan Area Show. If you are a submitting artist, you will be notified if you have been accepted after the jurying is complete.
Since the 1960s, this annual juried exhibition has showcased exceptional work in all media, drawing hundreds of entries from a 14-county region. Each year, an experienced juror chooses the artists from more than 500 submitted entries, ranging from paintings, prints and photos to mosaics, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture and mixed-media works. Organized by KIA Associate Curator Katherine Ransbottom, the exhibition will be on view May 18-August 25.
ABOUT THE JUROR
Vera Grant is Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs and Curator of Modern and Contemporary art at the The University of Michigan Museum of Art. She has previously served as director of the Ethelbert Cooper Gallery of African & African American Art at the Hutchins Center, Harvard University; as executive director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute at Harvard; and as associate director of the African and African American Studies Program at Stanford University.
The KIA will announce award winners sharing more than $5,000 in awards - including a $1,000 grand prize - on Friday, May 17, at an opening reception for the exhibition. The public is invited to cast a vote for their favorite during the exhibition's run, and the People's Choice Award ($500), sponsored by the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, will be announced near the end of the exhibition.
