Shop Highlight: George Robeck
Having had a rewarding teaching career at Western Michigan University, George decided eleven years ago to try ceramics classes here at the KIA. He was immediately hooked and has taken classes ever since, developing his skills and exploring the cultural history of pottery. While George mainly makes full sized pieces, he finds miniatures challenging and satisfying.
Most commercial miniatures are cast from molds, but his are made by hand using specially created tools from chopsticks. Small works take significantly more time than their bigger cousins because throwing, handling, assembling and glazing them can be awkward at best. Any clumsiness on the artist's part means starting each piece again.
