Donating to the Collection
The permanent collection of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts has grown through the generous donations of individuals and corporations. We invite you to participate in the KIA's mission to promote the enjoyment and understanding of art by donating a work of art or funding a purchase of art for the collection.
Works are accepted if they fall within the scope of the collection and can be managed with available resources. If works of art fall outside these parameters, donors may still support the collection and receive recognition by making an unrestricted gift of the work, which may be sold at the KIA's biennial Art & Antique Auction. The proceeds from this event support the collection by providing funds to purchase works of art.
Donors should consult with a tax specialist to ascertain the specific applicable charitable deductions, which may be based on current fair market value or the donor's cost in acquiring the object. The KIA cannot provide appraisals. Securing a qualified appraisal for tax purposes is the responsibility of the donor.

If you are considering a donation of art to the museum, whether during your lifetime or through a bequest, please email the Registrar, or call 269.349.7775. Because of the unique nature of gifts of art, we may recommend that you speak with a KIA curator to discuss your art and your wishes.
