Victoria Browning Wyeth is the only child born to Nicholas and Jane Wyeth. She is also the only grandchild of the iconic artist Andrew Wyeth, the great-granddaughter of renowned illustrator N.C. Wyeth, and the niece of celebrated uncle, Jamie Wyeth.
After graduating from The Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City, Victoria attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Cultural Studies in 2001. During her senior year, she organized and curated an exhibition of her grandfather's works entitled "Andrew Wyeth: Her Room" for the Bates College Museum of Art. After graduating from Bates, Victoria attended Harvard University for one year as a visiting graduate student. She then earned a Master of Arts degree in psychology from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. After completing her Masters' degree, she worked part-time for several years as a therapist for the Pennsylvania State Hospital System.
Ms. Wyeth has been a docent of Wyeth art since she was 15 years old, when she began giving walking tours at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Maine. She currently guides tours at the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. There, Ms. Wyeth opens up her family to the public through her eyes, sharing her personal memories and insights gained through years of discussions with her grandfather and uncle about their work. Her commitment to her family's art, legacy, and spirit is exemplified by her eagerness to share her family's "story" through free public tours, twice a day, five days a week. Her electrifying tours focus on subject matter, technique, family stories, and explanations of how each specific painting or drawing fits within the context of the Wyeth family portfolio - and within the broader context of the history of American art. In addition, she lectures extensively throughout the United States and abroad.
Seating for Victoria Wyeth's lecture is limited to 300.
Victoria Wyeth's appearance at the KIA is co-sponsored by the KIA and the Kalamazoo Art League. The ticket price includes admission to the KIA exhibition, The Wyeth's: America's Artists before and after the lecture (5:30 - 9 p.m.) on March 4.
The lecture is held in conjunction with The Wyeths: America's Artists.
