Learn how to design a video game or your own website this summer

Kalamazoo, MI - Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Summer is just around the corner and the KIA Kirk Newman Art School is proud to offer hot new classes!

The Kirk Newman Art School strives to provide new and exciting classes to stay current with today's technological advancements to meet the needs of the community. So far, they have added courses like Photoshop and graphic design to appeal to those seeking ways to build their business acumen as well as to cater to artists who use computers to create their art.

With this in mind, the Kirk Newman Art School is excited to announce its latest addition, Basic Video Game Design (844)! Today, the creation and design of video games resembles the undertakings of a major motion picture, with famous actors voicing the characters as well as impressive cinematography and special effects geared towards making the game as "real" as possible. As a result, many professional graphic designers are shifting their focus away from advertising and towards the video game industry.

Taught by former Hollywood resident John Troxtel, Basic Video Game Design will introduce basic concepts of interactive design. Students will develop a video game sample to take home on a DVD. Topics of the course will include basic interactive design, digital character design, character animation, composite videography, storytelling trees, virtual world construction, audio mixing, sweetening and after effects, composite editing and title design.

This 8 week course is held on Tuesday, 6:30 - 9 p.m. starting on Tuesday, June 8. The cost is $155 for the community; $147 for KIA Members and $143 for Sustaining KIA Members.

Also new this summer, is Fundamentals of Web Design (843) taught by Kevin Wixson. Beginning June 9, this 8-week course provides students an opportunity to customize and publish one of several provided website templates to showcase their art and personal profiles online. The essential concepts of building a website from selecting and obtaining a domain name and web hosting services to optimizing art for online presentation will also be covered. Web programming code topics, like HTML and CSS are introduced, but the use of a visual editor application is encouraged so that a deep technical understanding is not required.

Fundamentals of Web Design (843), is an 8 week course held on Wednesdays, 6:30 - 9 p.m. starting on Wednesday, June 9. Enrollment for this class is $155 for the community; $147 for KIA Members and $143 for Sustaining KIA Members.
