Poetry of Content

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts will feature Poetry of Content: Five Representational Artists beginning on November 5, 2016. The gallery will celebrate classic painting and drawing styles that create realist images and techniques.

Jerome Witkin served for 40 years as painter and professor at Syracuse University, and has championed the style of representation. To express his admiration of and act as to preserve realist style in an increasingly surrealist world, Witkin has gathered the work of five representational artists to include in the exhibition - Bill Murphy, Gillian Pederson-Krag, Joel Sheesley, Tim Lowly, and Robert Birmelin

"The collection of these realist styles easily transports the viewer to another time," says Karla Neihus, Associate Curator of Exhibitions. Poetry of Content: Five Representational Artists exhibits more than forty pieces, each expressing a beautiful representational image via print, drawing, or painting medium.

The exhibition will run through February 19, 2017. The exhibition sponsor is First National Bank. For more details on the exhibition, please contact the KIA via phone or email, at (269) 349-7775 and museum@kiarts.org.
