Young Artists of Kalamazoo County Opens May 14
Posted: April 29, 2016
KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is pleased to unveil the work of Kalamazoo County's youngest artists on Saturday, May 14. Admission is free that day, with hours of 11 am - 5 pm.
Each year, art teachers in the Kalamazoo County schools - private, public, parochial, and charter schools - submit a selection of artwork produced by their students to be featured in our annual Young Artists of Kalamazoo County exhibition.
For three weeks, two museum galleries will be filled with the most creative, colorful, whimsical art by young artists from kindergarten through eighth grade. Better than any refrigerator, every inch of gallery wall space, from floor to ceiling, is covered with paintings, drawings, 3-dimensional works, and more.
"We love the experience of seeing the pride on these children's faces - and those of their families - as they show their friends and family their creations," says Candie Waterloo, Assistant Curator of Youth and Family Programs.
The opening reception on May 14, 11 am - 5 pm, includes free admission, art demonstrations, music by Gilmore Piano Lab students, an art making activity in the Kirk Newman Art School, and refreshments.
Artists and families from these school districts are invited at the times listed.
11 am - 1 pm: Kalamazoo Public and Parchment schools
1 - 3 pm: Non-public schools, Comstock, Climax-Scotts, Galesburg-Augusta, Gull Lake, Schoolcraft, and Woods Edge (KRESA)
