The Kirk Newman Art School at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is now accepting applications for its new post-baccalaureate residency. The seven-month residency is designed for aspiring art students seeking to grow and strengthen their art practice in a supportive community, with access to professional studio facilities and guidance.

Applications are available at kiarts.org/school. Residencies will begin September 8.

There will be two residencies offered in painting, two in printmaking, one in photography/digital media, and one in ceramics. Each resident will receive up to two scholarships per term to attend classes at the Kirk Newman Art School. They will also receive a stipend for materials and access to the studio in their discipline.

Residents will also have the opportunity to participate in an annual holiday art sale (December) and art fair (June), providing them professional development experiences for marketing and selling their work. A critique of works produced will be provided at the end of the residency period.

Candidates should be recent college graduates preparing for a career as a professional artist or for entry into a Master of Fine Arts degree program. They should have a deep commitment in their chosen medium and have the appropriate discipline to work independently in an open studio environment.

Candidates accepted into the program will be required to sign a contract detailing privileges, studio access and duties.

Applications require a $20 fee, and are due by June 1. Awards will be announced July 13, and residencies will begin September 8, and end March 26, 2016.
