About Jessica Bohus
"My work is about enjoying creativity. I do it because it is satisfying and I want people to have fun appreciating the things I make. These creatures are my minions marching out to combat the mundane blandness of modern life. I wind them up and turn them loose to change the world one chuckle at a time." Jessica Bohus's work can be seen at her Blue Roan Studio, Fennville, and online.
About the work on view
"I think of these steel sculptures as carved air. The line of steel captures a volume that exists in the eye of the viewer. The mass is all air. I make horses because they are full of contradictions--powerful and skittish- dancing with muscle. Also, they have great hair. Each horse is an individual but when I hang them they become part of the larger whole that is the herd. The whole process is like working with a three-dimensional drawing; if I don't like a line I don't erase--I can bend it. If I don't like the placement of a horse I cut him down and rearrange him, suspending and tying him to the other horses until they all fit in a flowing 3-D drawing of air."
