June 26, 2013, Kalamazoo, MI - After more than two decades at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, James A. Bridenstine announced Monday, June 24, 2013 he will retire as Executive Director. "It has been an incredibly satisfying experience to serve the past 23 years as the Executive Director of the KIA. I have worked with a number of outstanding board presidents, board members, volunteers and members, but most of all I have thoroughly enjoyed working with so many of the dedicated staff members over the past twenty-three years," said Jim Bridenstine.

Jim has had numerous accomplishments as the Executive Director of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts and helped to maintain a dynamic presence for the visual arts in Kalamazoo and West Michigan communities. He was an influential force in bringing international and national exhibitions and speakers to the museum and helped create a variety of workshops and classes designed to educate and inspire community members. Bridenstine was also very successful in working with the Capital and Endowment Campaigns, overseeing the renovation and expansion of the facilities, and acquiring a number of major acquisitions.

Bridenstine plans to remain at the KIA and carry out all responsibilities associated with the Executive Director position until the Board of Directors and Succession Committee find a replacement.

"We thank Jim for his incredible leadership and dedication to the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts and the many contributions he has made. We also are grateful for the positive impact he and his wife Sheila have made in Kalamazoo and the surrounding communities," said Nancy Springgate, KIA Board President, of Jim's announcement.

There are several upcoming exhibitions for the summer 2013 season at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, such as A Precious Artistic Moment: Paintings by Catherine Hinkle, Modern Twist: Contemporary Japanese Bamboo Art and West Michigan Area Show 2013 will run until the end of the summer.
