Art on the iPad (831)

Twelve weeks, twelve applications, one amazing, incredible tool for artists! This course is an introduction to creating all kinds of visual art on the iPad, including drawing, painting, illustration, photography, videography, and even sculpture. Students are required to provide their own iPad, any version, and to buy all the apps covered in class (the apps cost about seventy dollars total). Note: Video editing app will not work on iPad 1, but all other apps are compatible.
Camera-Less Photographic Images (823)

This course will serve as a primer into the world of making photographic images without the use of a traditional camera. Starting with a deep exploration of the historic process of the Photogram and moving through to the contemporary world of flatbed scanning with the opportunity to combine these media with other photographic or print elements. Design for the Jeweler (726)

Learn basic design principles by studying works of art from the KIA collection as well as books from the KIA library. Using this knowledge and awareness of design, along with the study of the Golden Mean, we will begin planning and sketching pieces of jewelry, both simple and complex. Drawing and sketching pieces will be stressed throughout and students will leave with a sketchbook full of designs. A great class for stimulating the creative process. No experience necessary. Students should bring an 11X14 bound sketchbook.
Musical Instrument Making (407)

This class is for anyone who loves music and would like to make their own instruments. We will be working with both traditional materials (wood, gourds, rawhide) and readily available contemporary materials to create wind, stringed and percussion instruments from around the world. Instruments include African, Indian, and South American strings and percussion, didgeridoos and bullroarers, PVC flutes, etc. No special skills or experience necessary.

Young children and their favorite grown up are introduced to art, the museum, and verbal and visual literacy in this creative program. Topics for this session are line, form, texture and color. All materials are provided
Winter Art Camp (Grades 1-6)

Students will be introduced to the KIA's current exhibitions and the Permanent Collection as inspiration for the creation of their own works of art. Students should bring their imagination and creativity. All materials are provided.
Preparing for Your Art Future (Ages 14-18) (124)

This course is designed for the high school student who is considering studying visual art or design in college. Weekly presentations on contemporary issues in art, peer critiques and portfolio development strategies will be combined with local gallery and studio visits, college programmatic research and lots of discussion on the many study/career options for creatively minded students.
