Jim Dine The Henry Street Robes

Jim Dine, The Henry Street Robes, 2006. Collection of the KIA, Elisabeth Claire Lahti Fund Purchase. 2006.3

Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts has been able to grow its collection despite the economic downturn. The Elisabeth Claire Lahti Fund has enabled the KIA to purchase sixty works of art that will be on display in one exhibition that will open on Saturday, September 29 and close January 20, 2013.

To enrich the lives and experiences of area residents and visitors, the KIA actively collects works by nationally renowned artists. In 1998, through the generosity of an individual donor, the Elisabeth Claire Lahti Fund was established. Since then, the fund has supported the purchase of sixty works of art - paintings, sculpture, ceramics, prints, drawings, and photographs-that have enhanced the quality and breadth of the KIA's collection.

Some of these works, by artists such as Mary Cassatt, Jim Dine, Helen Frankenthaler, and Jasper Johns, have been brought together for this exhibition. Look for additional works purchased in honor of Elisabeth Lahti, identified by special labels, in other galleries throughout the museum.
