Spring/summer registration is now open for classes at The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Kirk Newman Art School!

Everyone knows that the Kirk Newman Art School offers hundreds of classes every year in painting, drawing, ceramics and other traditional media, and that the classes are taught by professional, practicing artists. But did you know that the Kirk Newman Art School offers classes in design, foreign languages, creative writing and digital media like web design?

It's true! This spring, interested students can brush up on their Italian with "Refreshing your Italian" (604) with Monica Nahm, or practice speaking French with "French Conversation" (606) with Kathy Curtis Smith!

Are you a budding writer looking for some guidance? Or an active writer searching for new inspiration? Look no further than "Creative Writing" (607) with Susan Ramsey!

Techies who need more experience with Photoshop or web design can improve their skills by attending "Intermediate Photoshop CS4 Techniques" (858) with Jim Riegel and "Web Design" 859 with Kevin Wixson. For the budding Spielbergs out there, "Digital Filmmaking" (844) with Martin Burch is just the ticket!

The Kirk Newman Art School also offers Accessible Arts programs for the developmentally disabled, this summer features a ceramics class led by Heather Bigelow ("Ceramics" 200).

The KIA art school also offers rare media classes including Fiber classes like "Floor-Loom Weaving" (580, 581) and Indigo Dyeing (575) as well as Printmaking skills like "Photopolymer Etching" (765).

For parents and caregivers looking to get a jump start on registering their little ones in spring/summer art classes and art camps, check out the wide range of options available from grammar school age to high school! There is even a home school option!
