KIA Announces Winners of "Inspired by Art" Writing Contest

The entries came from as far away as Alaska, Texas, and Nevada - more than 600 poems, short stories, and other written expression all inspired by a single image: Dorothea Lang's iconic photograph, Migrant Mother, Nipomo, California.

Called "Inspired by Art" this writing contest was targeted to adults and students grades 6-8 and 9-12 who were invited to submit up to 200 words inspired by the photograph. Entries were juried by Kalamazoo Friends of Poetry.
Top winners in each of the three categories received $100 and had their entry published on the KIA website and in the exhibition gallery. Runners-up received KIA memberships and are published online. Entries of special merit were also considered for publication.
