KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts opens a new exhibition January 14. Out of the Fire: Masterworks of Ceramics spotlights more than 60 pieces from the museum's permanent collection, representing mid-20th-century modernism, the studio craft movement, and today's contemporary practice. 2017 out of the fire 1977-8 112-autio-2

Some of the finest ceramic artists in the U.S. will be on view, including Peter Voulkos, Ruth Duckworth, Rudy Autio, Paul Soldner, Don Reitz, Otto and Vivika Heino, and others who marked the emergence of the American Studio Ceramics Movement.

"These works demonstrate a range of experimentation with clay as an artistic and sculptural medium," says KIA Curatorial Assistant and exhibition curator Katherine Ransbottom. "Within the last century, ceramics artists have pushed artistic boundaries in many ways, and the exhibition shows how the potter has evolved as an artist."

The exhibition will run through March 12. For more details on Out of the Fire: Masterworks in Ceramics, please contact the KIA via phone or email, at (269) 349-7775 and museum@kiarts.org.
