The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts presents an evening of reader's theatre, A Night with the Artists Thursday, October 22 at 6:30 pm.
Theatrical readings will tell the personal stories of some of the artists and subjects featured in Common Ground: African American Art from the Flint Institute of Arts, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, and the Muskegon Museum of Art.
Dwandra Lampkin, WMU Associate Professor of Theatre Arts, has written vignettes that bring this exhibition to life, including an imagined conversation between photographer Gordon Parks and Ella Watson, the subject for his iconic photo American Gothic, Washington, D.C..
Lampkin will also direct the evening, which will be performed by Marissa Harrington, Bianca Washington, Von Washington, Jr., and Lampkin. The performance is included with $5 museum admission; free for students 12 and under, KIA members, and active military.
