KALAMAZOO, MI - More than 180 artists have confirmed their participation in the 64th Annual Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Fair June 5-6.
The 2015 lineup of jury-selected artists from across the country includes last year's top prize winner, painter Marie Lamothe, and popular local favorites, jewelry artist David Smallcombe, ceramicist Julie Devers, and painter Conrad Kauffman. The variety of mediums on view includes glass, fiber, leather, sculpture, wood, and photography.
New this year will be a booth of emerging artists, 60 first-time exhibitors, and local street artist Bonus Saves making art on-site in Bronson Park, assuring a fresh experience for the tens of thousands of art patrons who will descend upon Bronson Park.
Always the first weekend in June, the arts fair runs Friday, 3-8 pm, and Saturday, 9 am-5 pm. Artists are the headliners, but look also for food vendors, Saturday children's activities, and musical performances by Bog Road, Cabtown Checkers, Mall City Harmonizers, and Steve Kamerling Trio.
Featured Friday are music, and drink at the ever-popular Bell's Beer Garden, outside the KIA, with food by Millennium Group. Members of Kalamadoodle will be on hand drawing and encouraging new doodlers. Saturday will see music in the park , and children's activities all day (a convenient option after the 11 am Do Dah Parade).
The fair's title sponsor is PNC.
For those who might like to experience the fair in a new way, upwards of 200 volunteers donate their time to make this event a success. For details, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
