Over $4,000 in Cash Prizes Awarded to Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Fair Artists

June 7, 2013, Kalamazoo, MI - The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is pleased to announce the cash prize winners for the 62nd Annual Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Fair. Over $4,000 of cash prizes were awarded to Arts Fair artists on June 7 at 8 p.m. and the winners were selected by Graham W. J. Beal, from the Detroit Institute of Arts. The awards include: a $1,200 first place prize, a $600 second place prize and a $300 third place prize. $150 prizes were also awarded to the best artwork in each of the thirteen different mediums at the Fair.

Juror Graham W. J. Beal
Graham W. J. Beal has been the Director, President, and CEO of the Detroit Institute of Arts since 1999. The DIA has undergone a major renovation and expansion under Beal's leadership, in addition to a reinstallation of their world-renowned collection. Beal has published several books, exhibition catalogs, and articles including an exhibition catalogue on DIA's American paintings. Prior to his arrival in Detroit, he served as director at numerous institutions, including the L.A. County Museum of Art, the Joslyn Art Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Beal is a native of Great Britain, born in Stratford-on-Avon. He has degrees in English and Art History from the University of Manchester and the Courtauld Institute of Art.

Saturday Programming
The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Fair will continue on Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over 180 artists are on hand, showcasing a variety of colorful artwork in 13 different mediums. A full lineup of entertainment is scheduled for Saturday featuring performances by circus artists Knotty Bits, Mall City Harmonizers, the Crescendo Fiddlers and more!
