Printmaking Class

It's time to spring into action and start pruning your creative garden by registering for art classes at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts' Kirk Newman Art School!

With more than 300 classes available year-round, the Kirk Newman Art School is the ideal venue for any artist. Whether you're a beginner or have been practicing in your medium for decades, our professional artist staff will guide you to mastering your craft. Our professional studios are equipped with the latest tools you need to be successful.

Registration is now open for spring and summer classes! We offer everything from ceramics, painting, drawing and photography, to printmaking, digital media, fiber arts and more! New this spring!

3-D Printing (825) with Kevin Wixson: Turn a digital design into a real, three-dimensional object at the click of a button. Experience 3D printing, a cutting edge technology that turns electronic files into physical shapes you can wear, use or display. Artists, innovators and makers of all kinds will enjoy learning about this modern marvel, but it will be of particular interest to sculptors, jewelers, and modelers. Master Class Series: Jewelry Scale Hammer Work (717) with Paul Mergen: As the former head of the Metals Department at Western University, Paul Mergen mentored many students who have successful careers as jewelers
and metal smiths. As a master copper smith, Mr. Mergen makes most of his own tools and relies primarily on fundamental hammering techniques. Watch as he creates pieces using hammers and simple tools to make exquisite curves and lines in copper. For a full description and to register, click here.

Supervised Work Time (713) with Amy Culp: If you like to work in the jewelry studio primarily on your own then this class may be for you. This class is supervised by our knowledgeable staff and is intended for students who have taken at least two beginner classes. Students must be able to solder and use equipment unattended. You will be able to work in the studio and have the advantage of asking questions, getting suggestions and sharing ideas with the instructor and other students while having the freedom of setting your own work agenda.
