SUMMARY:ArtBreak: From Deep Time to Body-Oddy-Oddies
DESCRIPTION:Eric Souther (he/him) is an Assistant Professor of Kinetic Imaging in the Gwen Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University. During this ArtBreak lecture\, he will present a short overview of his experimental media art practice\, covering the topics of artificial intelligence\, deep time\, material agency\, and his recent collaborative work with Benjamin Rosenthal: “Body-oddy-oddy: Destabilizing the Surveilling of Queer Bodies\,” which won the Digital Art Category in last year’s ArtPrize In Grand Rapids. Souther shows his work both nationally and internationally in galleries\, museums\, and film festivals. \nGuests are advised that some videos shown in this presentation may include flashing lights and images that could cause discomfort and/or seizures for those with visual sensitivities. \nAll hybrid events will be livestreamed to our YouTube page and can be found under the “Live” tab. Recordings of select past events are available on YouTube as well. No registration is necessary in order to join in virtually.
