Denise Lisiecki, the Director of the KIA's Kirk Newman Art School will discuss the talented artist faculty and the behind-the-scenes activities at the school. Take advantage of this special opportunity to learn more about how the KIA inspires and trains artists right here in Kalamazoo. This Art League Lecture will take place at the KIA on Wednesday, December 14 at 10 a.m.

Free for Art League Members; $10 general admission; $3 students with ID from K College, WMU, KVCC or Kirk Newman Art School.

Denise was born in Cleveland, Ohio. While attending Miami University as a pre-med student, she changed her major to painting after her sophomore year. She received her B.F.A. from Miami University and a Master's Degree from the State University of New York. Lisiecki also studied at the University of North Dakota, Kent State University and Cleveland State University. During her career as an artist, Denise has headlined in more than 40 individual exhibitions and has been included in more than 100 group exhibitions. Her work is represented in more than 60 museums and corporate collections.

Denise is one of two painters in Michigan to be awarded the National Endowment for the Arts Midwest Fellowship. She has received two Creative Artist Grants from the Michigan Council for the Arts and was chosen to represent the Midwest with two of her painting for the exhibition Sea to Shining Sea, curated by Haggin Museum, Stockton, CA. This exhibit has been traveling throughout the United States since 2002.

Denise has also served as a guest lecturer, visiting artist, teacher and national juror. Presently Denise is Director of the Kirk Newman Art School at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts and teaches several painting and drawing classes annually.
