Tylonn J. Sawyer is an American figurative artist, educator, and curator living in Detroit. His work centers on themes of identity, both individual and collective, politics, race, history and pop culture. Sawyer is a Professor of Art at Oakland Community College and teaches drawing at the College for Creative Studies. He earned an MFA in painting from New York Academy of Art and a BFA in drawing and painting from Eastern Michigan University. In 2019, he was awarded the Alain Locke Recognition Award as well as a Kresge Fellowship for Visual Art, and the KIA recently acquired Sawyer's painting, American Woman: Columbia. With admission.
