ARTBreak Talk: Bigger Than Life!

Dates: Tue Oct 25, 16

Time: 12:00pm

Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Auditorium

Monumental public sculptures complement and enhance our outdoor living spaces--but how do they get there? How do artists fabricate, transport and install giant, multi-ton artworks?

Join Thelda Mathews for a look inside K&M Machine Fabricating, Inc. of Cassopolis, Michigan. Thelda recently retired as Manager of the Sculpture Division at K&M where she supervised the process of translating the artists' maquettes into large scale metal outdoor sculptures.

Thelda worked closely with sculptors of both regional and international stature including Kalamazoo's own Marcia Wood, Richard Hunt, Marshall Fredricks, David Hayes and Michael Dunbar.

K&M's Sculpture Division has fabricated contemporary artworks for architects, corporations, colleges and universities, hospitals, libraries, state agencies and city governments.
