Three Films by Tom Ludwig

Tom Ludwig is an award-winning filmmaker and arts educator who has been making films since 1970 and teaching filmmaking since 1987. Tom teaches film and video production for the Education for the Arts program in Kalamazoo Michigan, and Film Interpretation at Western Michigan University. His most recent documentary, A Long Strange Trip, premiered at the end of April 2008 at The Little Theatre on the Western Michigan University campus, and won a 2009 Voice Award Honorable Mention.

These three films span 30 years of Tom Ludwig's work as a filmmaker and his transition from film to video. Appastapas came about from two simple ideas: driving around with the camera in the back of a van and water. Moon Tunnel w/Alex is a formal piece and Ludwig s first substantial work in video. It looks at three different elements and how they work together to define time and space. In Mu, inspired by witnessing the total destruction of a neighbor's house by fire, the filmmaker contemplates life's great seriousness that is so precious and wonderful against the insignificance of the event and us to the universe.

Included with museum admission. ($5 adults, $2 students over 12, members free.)
