Maple Burl Bowl

Tom Rumsey Maple Burl Bowl
"The gnarled and twisted piece of wood caught my attention. Slowly as the lathe turned, a free-form bowl shape began to emerge. It seemed to appear as if it had been there all along." Being instrumental in the subtle awakening of a piece of wood is at the heart and soul of Tom Rumsey's work.

Wood turning is the primary focus of Tom Rumsey's current work. n choosing unusual pieces of wood, Tom sees cracks, holes and rotten sections as unique challenges. He revels in these imperfections as shape and texture unfold disclosing the natural balance of form and light to dark.

A member of the Grand Rapids Wood Turners Guild, Tom has shown his work in group, invitational and juried exhibitions in Southwest Michigan. His work has been accepted into the KIA West Michigan Area Show several years.

Bowls sealed with wax may be used for food but do not let high acid foods sit for prolonged time. Wash by hand and dry immediately to prevent water marks.
