Denise Lisiecki, often referred to as the" Queen of Still Life". This watercolor is a brilliant example of why!

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio then went on to attend Miami University as a pre-med student, she changed her major to painting after her sophomore year. She received her B.F.A. from Miami University and a Masters Degree from the State University of New York. Denise also attended University of North Dakota, Kent State University and Cleveland State University.

Denise has had over 40 individual exhibitions and has been included in over 100 group exhibitions. Her work is represented in over 60 museum and corporate collections. She is one of only two painters in Michigan to be awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Midwest Fellowship. She has received two Creative Artist Grants from the Michigan Council for the Arts.

She was chosen to represent the Midwest with two of her paintings for the exhibition Sea to Shining Sea , curated by Haggin Museum in Stockton, California. Her paintings are reproduced in the books and magazines including Sea to Shining Sea published by the Haggin Museum Daily life in Still life , Lynn Moss, Easy Solutions: Color Mixing, Stephen Doherty, "Denise Lisiecki: Choosing Still-Life Objects for Their Meaning", Stephen Doherty, Watercolor Magazine, "From Screen Printing to Painting and Back", Ruthe Thompson, American Artist Magazine and "Denise Lisiecki: Serigraphs of Female Sensibility", Ruthe Thompson, Screen Printing Magazine. She has been a guest lecturer, adjunct professor, workshop instructor and national juror.

Presently Denise is Director of the Kirk Newman Art School at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.
