Hugh Acton, Suspended Beam Bench (15"h x 58"w x 16"d) |
| |
| |
This bench was first conceived in 1954 when the designer was a student at Cranbrook. Both an art form and an engineering marvel, the bench requires a tremendous amount of hand finishing work, which is why production was stopped in 1967. Forty years later, Acton himself brought it back true to the original design. Still made completely without screws or glue, the walnut and stainless steel bench is crafted by hand over a period of three days. Hugh Acton signs each bench, which can be used as seating or as a coffee table. Don’t miss this chance to own a handcrafted example of modern Michigan furniture! |
